At The Centre St-Ambroise,  5080 St-Ambroise

Filmmakers from all over the world will be sharing their stories about our messed-up planet and the people who are making it better. On March 8th you’ll witness a vivacious documentary-musical about dumpster diving in Montreal, a beautiful examination of the struggle to rebuild life in New-Orleans, and footage from Santa’s real workshop in China where 80% of North America’s Christmas ornaments are manufactured.

The night will be divided into three unique twenty-minute screenings at 10pm, 11pm and midnight

There will be live music by The ParcXTrio (9pm) and after midnight a Abram Sez DANCE PARTY!

*Partial proceeds from beer sales go to support The Apathy is Boring Project, a national non-partisan organization that aims to use art and technology to engage youth in the democratic process. www.apathyisboring.com.

Art Matters is co-presenting this event. Art Matters is a festival of fine arts that celebrates and supports the developing talent housed at Concordia University. Schedule for the night:

Doors open at 9pm, and you’ll be smart to show-up on time: the talented local jazz sensations ParcXTrio will be warming up the room in anticipation of the ten o’clock screening.

10pm Screening
Lila & Nudni: Bite the Big Apple - Micha Lizare & Lyndsey Anderson
Two girls from New York change the world in seven days.

Surfing the Waste - Tomoe Yoshihara & Paul Aflalo
Follow a group of dumpster divers on a musical journey through the back alleys of Montreal. Between song and dance routines about waste and the joys of reusing other people's garbage, five young adults discuss the philosophy of living off society's excess. Awesome!

After the Screening, Valleys will amuse you with their brand of slow-rock.

11pm Screening
In the woods with Julian - Ben Arthur
A young boy imagines himself as a tortured tree.

Roerich Garden - Emily Rose Michaud
A group of Montrealers work to protect Plateau green-space from municipal development.

Santa's Little Helper - Chen Hangfeng
In a small town in the Zhejiang Province of China it is Christmas everyday. Here, Santa’s little helpers work year-round to produce the decorations for the Western World’s December festivities.

Midnight Screening
Being Iraqi - Paul Shore (GNN.tv)
Paul follows Iraqi-Canadian rapper Yassin Alsalman, aka The Narcycist, over the Canada/US border to a live show in Brooklyn, NY. This short video explores stereotyping, particularly of young Arab males, in a post 9-11 world.

Still lives - Anna Sarkissian
More than a year after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, some neighborhoods have turned into virtual wastelands. The highest price was paid by the most destitute. This short film gives voice to the victims as well as to the volunteers, who wonder how useful they can be in the absence of a proper aid system.

C'mon in! - Ayesha Hameed
C’mon in! is a performance-based video on the recent ‘reasonable accommodation’ hearings that explores the dual meaning of accommodation as reluctant tolerance, and as a description of home, in order to explore what ‘reasonable’ means when talking about cultural difference and immigration in a settler society.

Stick around after the last screening a Abram Sez DANCE PARTY!
